Direct Support Professionals
Direct Support Professionals (DSP) provide care and support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. DSP training ensures that everyone receiving services from California Department of Developmental Services receives the highest caliber of residential service available.
DSP training is available for free to all currently employed direct support professionals working in either their first or second year at a licensed community care facility.
Direct Support Professional Training Administration
For all DSPT registration, you must register online through the California Department of Developmental Services Direct Support Professional Training portal. Registration opens 30 days prior to and closes seven days before the scheduled training class and challenge test.
To register, DSPs, you must have the following information:
- Your email address
- Your phone number
- Social security number
- Facility vendor number
- Facility email address
- Please choose an Eden Area ROP trainer/location. Most classes are now online via Zoom while some are in-person class. Challenge tests can only be done in-person.
- Dr. Cindy Christovale: online at Eden Area ROP (26316 Hesperian Blvd., Room B4, Hayward, CA 94545) or other location as specified.
- Mr. Abraham Hill: online, at Horizon Adult Day Program (3500 Callan Blvd., South San Francisco, CA 94080) or other location as specified.
- Dr. Ellen Faryna: online, at Careplus Adult Day Program (4182 Redwood Highway, San Rafael, CA 94903) or other location as specified.
Results Notification
Once a DSP completes the challenge test or training class, the DSP and the administrator of the facility they are employed in will receive an email notification of results. A DSP may receive a certification notice, a certification notice with additional training needed (ATN), a failure notice, or an incomplete/failure notice. DSPs can access all certification notices at DSP Training, CCF administrators, and regional centers. You cannot access failure notifications online.
