Cybersecurity Class

This course teaches the fundamentals of cybersecurity operations and practices (such as computer communication, terminal commands, basic cryptography and pentesting tools, as well as important skills for modern-day defensive and offensive cyber threat through lectures and in-class demonstrations.  Students will primarily learn Windows Linux operating systems (some iOS and Android), cloud computing, digital forensics and other critical topics and programs that offer a certification-as-you-go learning model. 

Taking this course will help students to prepare for the Cisco and CompTIA certification exams that are professional industry certifications. This course's curriculum, labs and group exercises expose students to several in-demand cybersecurity applications and prepare them to enter the field of cybersecurity with AI and IT.

  • Encryption and cryptography
  • Cloud computing fundamentals
  • Cyber threat management
  • Penetration Testing - Demonstration

Requirements: 

  • Computer or laptop: PC Windows 10 or later; macOS 14 or later
  • Internet service
  • Browser: Latest Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari
  • Google Docs Online or LibreOffice
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader or Foxit Reader; Canvas; Zoom

Prerequisites:

  • Basic computer literacy
  • High school diploma or GED recommended

Date, time, location, and fee:

  • 18 weeks, Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., in-person in Hayward campus.
  • Online class/homework and Zoom sessions may be assigned.
